Love, love is eternal... or was that some kind of fairy tale? How many of us growing up actually believe in that? Especially after the first, the second, the third... We keep telling ourselves, “That was not true love,” otherwise we would have to alt for the possibility that love is not eternal. We keep moving forward, trying to find what love really means, trying to find what love really is. If love is not eternal, then what is the point of trying to find it? It would be as common and as easy to find as a happy meal from the McDonald’s. It loses its value. In the searching, many of us never find it, and thus often question it. It is extremely difficult to find what you are looking when you do not even know what it is. We become very skeptical when others promise us something we do not understand. We cannot love when we do not yet understand love.

However, through logical interpretation, what love is, can be reasoned.

Love, love is eternal. If, and only if, love is eternal, then one can only love once and only need to love once. Love, love is trust, love is care, love is sacrifice, love is the wish of the happiness of the other, and love does not ask for anything in return.

To trust someone, with the value of love, is, by all means, not easy. How much trust is worthy enough of being associated with love? Property possessions? Bank accounts? Our lives? Our dreams? If we were willing to trade love for any of those, then we have undermined love. Since the person we love will rise up above everything else.

To care for someone, is the wish of happiness upon the other. What is the utmost happiness? Theme parks? Houses and possessions? Physical enjoyment? Or to be ourselves? To do what we want to do, unrestricted, unhindered. To be free.

To sacrifice for someone enough to show your love is difficult. Difficult, but doable. To love them, is to trust them. To love them, is to care for them. Trust them, we trust them with the thing that is most important to us, more than our lives, more than our dreams. We trust them with the person we love. To care for them, we want them to have the utmost happiness they are searching for, we want them to be free. We trust them to be able to make the right choices that make themselves happy. We tremble at the thought of this trust. It is too big for us to handle. There is always the possibility that their choices to be happy do not involve us. We want to give them freedom. We feel weak at the thought of this care. For them to be free means they can leave us anytime they want.

When we wish for the happiness of our love, we do not ask anything in return. After all, how can we love someone we do not trust? How can we love someone we do not care for? How can we love someone we are not willing to sacrifice for?

This trust, this care, this sacrifice, is so big that it can only be done once.
Love is, after all, eternal.

I love you.
